PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

XR: NYU Tandon's Summer Program, Extending Reality Through Virtual Worlds is a 2-week, 10-class online program that introduces high-school students to the fundamentals of designing and developing augmented reality (AR) based experiences with a focus on developing basic applications and games. Over the course, students will learn to create creative, useful, and engaging AR solutions using current software platforms. Apart from learning how to develop basic AR applications or games, they will also learn core concepts and principles in creating interesting and immersive user experiences (UX), and useful and user-friendly interfaces (UI), as well as be exposed to the different possible applications of AR in our everyday lives, in professional practice and industry, and in research. By the end of this course, students should be well prepared for a transition into taking undergraduate STEM majors in college – students who are particularly interested in creative, artistic or designerly applications of technology design and development and computer science would really benefit from taking this course. Students who are interested in pursuing careers in creative technologies, game development, human-computer interaction (HCI), or in emerging media art practice, will find this course ideal as an introduction to these fields.

Meet Our Mentors

The offerings in Digital Design and Media are created and supervised by Profs. Ahmed Ansari and Scott Fitzgerald, inspired by their own courses and those of their colleagues in Tandon's Integrated Design and Media program or an introductory robotics class.
